CVS Pathology

·         Cardiac hypertrophy :
Concentric Hypertrophy
a.       response to pressure overload (e.g., hypertension or aortic stenosis)
b.      sarcomeres proliferate in parallel
c.       increased ventricular thickness
d.      no change in size of ventricular cavity
Eccentric Hypertrophy
  1. response to volume overload
  2. sarcomeres proliferate in series
  3. no increase in ventricle thickness
  4. increase in size of ventricular cavity
